Q1. In terms of the work you do, what aspects are you most passionate about? Why?
A1. Creating stories that draw people in from the first page and keep them turning to find out what happens next.
Q2. What do you consider some of your biggest professional and personal accomplishments? How did your attributes contribute to those accomplishments?
A2. My greatest personal satisfaction comes from being a mother and a wife while building my dual career as an author and a professor. I’m so grateful to be a mom and to have such a wonderful husband. That sounds far more like something you’d expect someone to say in a popular women’s magazine, but it’s the truth. Professionally, I’m still quite chuffed to have won the Scott O’Dell Award for historical fiction and eager to see how well my new books do. The attributes that contributed to these accomplishments would have to include my skills with nurturing, psychology, creativity, history, diversity, a strong passion for learning and sharing what I’ve learned. Boy, does this sound like I’m answering questions for a pageant!
Q3. What is your dream for the future?
A3. I would be so thrilled if my children grow up to be independent, happy, successful people who change the world for the better. As a writer/teacher, I would love to direct a successful MFA program, write a book that wins a national award, create a successful series, see one of my books made into a well-done film, and continue to help other writers reach their dreams.
