I'm still here

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but life gets busy and things get put on hold. My husband and I are awaiting the start of the adoption of our little girl that we took in over 2 years ago when she was just 2 weeks old. On top of all that I have been trying to work on finding a bigger storefront for my retail baby store before our 1 year anniversary. The commercial market is hard here and I'm not having much luck. Some days I think I should just be a stay-at-home mom and be happy with that.
I have also been reading more than ever these days. My best friend (Melanie) also likes to read so we share a lot of books. Luckily we both seem to like the same type of novels. Melanie is also a fellow blogger as well as a new author, having just published her 1st two childrens books.
You can check out her blog here As Real As It Gets
Her 1st book, Hammy's New Home and her second book, If I Were A Duck both available on Amazon for your Kindle. Hammy's New Home is also available in printed if you wish to order one.

It is that time of year that kids are going back to school. PLEASE remember that when you are taking your child's picture of their first day not to post where they go to school or to have anything in the picture showing where they go. Unfortunately there are many predators out there and if you take your childs picture with their school locations, grade, name and of course your name is there, they have way more information on your child than they should. That makes it easy for them to gain the trust of your child to coax them away.
With that being said, I wish all the kids going back to school a great year and be safe.

Followers

I know people are reading my posts (because I can see my stats lol) but yet no one is following. What do you look for in a blog for it to be "follow worthy"?
I know I'm not full of fun and excitement, but I'm still trying to figure all this out. It doesn't break my heart that I don't have followers since I didn't start this blog for a popularity contest, but I'm curious.

On another note I finished a book the other day called "Pandora's Daughter" by Iris Johanson. I thought it was a good book. Has anyone else read it?

Weather

It's funny how the weather can determine moods of some people. Take for instance today. It's overcast with a forecast of storms. I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open at work. Nothing sounds better than crawling back in bed and catching up on some much needed sleep.
It doesn't help that I started reading a new book today "The Pelican Brief" by John Grisham and it just hasn't caught my interest yet. Only 29 pages in and it was hard getting thru those.
Has anyone else read it? Did you enjoy it? Does it get better?

Rise and Shine.....or simply just rise

I'm not a morning person, never have been. So when I have to get up early for any reason I'm usually not all "bright eyed and bushy tailed". Where did that saying even come from? People don't have tails.
Anyways, it's hard to get out of bed some mornings. Especially mornings like today where the sky is all overcast making sleep want to stay even longer. The decision that I must make is to either just get out of bed and be grouchy, which is so easy to do. Or I can think about at least 1 good thing I will see or do today to make it worthwhile to get out of bed.
I've got housework and running around to do today. What's so good about that? Well can crank up the radio and listen to my favorite music while driving so there's a plus! It's no a big one, but it's little things in life that we have to appreciate.
So even though the weather is gloomy this morning let me work on getting my shine on.

Being your own boss

Growing up I always wanted to own my own store. My grandmother was a small business owner and I learned a lot about resale from her when I was quite young. Almost all of my jobs I've ever held involved some type of sale/retail position.
I was beyond excited when I decided last Nov. 2015 to take a leap and open my own store Affordable Babies Clothing & Supplies currently located at 105 E Albany St in Herkimer, NY. Feel free to check out our Facebook page.
I didn't expect to become rich overnight and that was certainly a good thing. It's been almost 8 months and although business has been steady for the most part, it needs to be more.
I find myself wondering some days if it's really worth being open. Getting your name out is hard. Trying to get people to understand that shopping at a small, locally owned business instead of Walmart is even harder.
I've done word of mouth, ads in the newspaper, ads and promotions. Nothing seems to make a difference. I keep my fingers crossed that I'll have a really good month and be able to have the extra money to advertise on the radio or even TV. I never believe the saying "It takes money to make money" more than I do now.
I will try to keep my head up and a smile on my face since many people never even get the chance to live out their dream. It may not last forever, but at least I can say I tried.

Moral of my story.....it's not how long a dream lasts, but how it makes you feel while you are living it.

I'm here, but where do I go

Well it's here, my first blog and my first blog post. Not sure where this is going to go, but I can't wait to find out. Maybe just a few stalkers...uh hem... I mean followers or maybe I'll take over the blogging world. (Ok maybe that's a little drastic).
If this is your first time here and you are wondering what this blog will be about, welcome to the club. I'm not sure if I will have certain "topics" or if I will just post a bit of everything. Maybe I will talk about the weather, animals, food or just how I'm feeling that day.
Wherever this goes I thank you for stopping and hopefully following too.

**Update**
I'm simply amazed already with this blog. Not even close to 24 hrs and already have had close to 50 views. Now if I get people following me I'll be (that is the goal behind these things right lol).
