Afterglow by Catherine Coulter

Afterglow by Catherine Coulter

(2 out of 5 book rating)

I just couldn't get into this book. It was easy to read, but I found the story itself quite annoying. I understand it was a Romance novel, but still. For starters, who would continue to keep wanting try and start a relationship with someone that continuously treated like crap? That whole situation just didn't draw me in. Then to add to that (without giving anything away), how can a "good" friend do what George (and the others) did to Chelsea? I don't think I could, actually I know I wouldn't, call someone like that a good friend after the scheming they did. It was beyond wrong, but then even more confusing was how Chelsea responds at the end.

Sleepwalker: A Keyhole Novel (The Keyhole Novels Book 1) by Sarah A. Kenney is a short story that will keep you wanting more. Right from the first couple pages I wanted to read this book and do nothing else. When I started reading I wanted to know what the "accident" was that had happened and why it was so hard to get passed. There is never a moment of relaxing. I feel so bad for the main character, Ashley, who seems to go from one bad event in her life to another. This girl can't seem to ever catch a break. It was so well written that I had no trouble envisioning everything that was happening and to me that is very important for a book.
The ending was just the I like and hate them. I always want books to end because I hate being left wondering, but isn't that the point when your an author. Leave the readers wanting more so they will get the next book? That's exactly the case with this one. Just when you think it's over....surprise! And the surprises just keep coming. I actually finished the book and sat there saying whoa, why, how and mostly what?
I feel as though I should write more for this review, but at the same time if I do I might give away the story. Just trust me. If you love short stories, thriller and horror books, this is a definite read.

Mutiny at Primrose High by Meghasi Bhatt is a short story about a principal who makes the teachers miserable. I am disappointed to give a bad review as I know that it's hard for authors who are just starting out, however, I wasn't impressed at all. I noted quite a few errors in the writing as well as a lot of repetition. In Part 1, Chapters 7 and 8 even started off with the same wording. It is a short story, yet was broken down into a series of parts with multiple chapters within each. I think it would've been fine with just chapters. This might be a good book for a young adult to read, but it didn't have any moments that we really interesting, nothing really grabbed my attention to keep my reading.

Reading Between The Line by Jo Merrett

I recently received my 1st request from an author to review her book. It's called
Reading Between The Lines by Jo Merrett. Let me say that the 1st paragraph will definitely grab your attention like no other book.
I agreed to read this book, although a bit outside my normal murder mysteries.

I am giving this book 📘📘📘📘 (4 out of 5 book) rating.

I enjoyed reading this book, even though I would get caught off guard every now and then due to a bit of a language barrier (not enough that I couldn't figure it what was being said). I do wish Kate's living situation, as well as her age, was described right in the beginning of the book. I had thought that she lived at home with her parents. So I was, of course, shocked when she brought a guy home. The book has a nice flow to it. It's not all just sex, but normal everyday situations too.
I was torn with reading this book. It kept wanting to find out what would happen next, but the "adult" scenes were not something I could read while my 3 yr old was awake. They were quite descriptive (in a good way).
To me, Kate comes off as very easy. So towards once Jack came into the picture I wasn't sure where things were going to go, definitely not where I thought. And the ending.....WOW.....I don't know what to say. I was floored.

The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson

 ðŸ“˜ðŸ“˜ðŸ“˜ (3 out of 5 book rating)

I just finished The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. The second book in this series. Unfortunately, Stieg Larsson passed away and was unable to continue the series. David Langercratz, however, decided to do it for him. So far David has wrote two more in the series The Girl In The Spiders Web and The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye. I am not sure if I will continue with the series. I have heard from some other people who have continued and they weren't happy with the way David portrayed the characters. Maybe I'll have to read them and make my own opinion.

Like the 1st book, I enjoyed the story line, but found it a hard read because there were so many names of people and places. Most of them I am not sure of the pronunciation, making it a bit of a struggle to have a nice flow with my reading. There were so many places, people and different events going on. In my opinion Salander is the main character of the book, but it seemed like she took a back seat in this one. I didn't get lost in the story, but I don't think this book was as good as the first. Even after finishing the book, I am still not sure of how certain people were connected leaving me a bit frustrated. Normally I don't have much desire to see movies that were made from books. I almost feel like I have to see these though, so I can hear how the names and places are pronounced. Also, to get a better understanding of the role everyone played.

Followers

So I've noticed my page stats are nicely increasing (thanks for visiting), but no one is following (that's sad). So what I'm am wondering is - what kind of page makes you follow it? Is it the layout, posts, how active it is?

I like to follow pages that have similar interests and are active. Not all of them need to be about books either. Blogs that are laid back and make me laugh are also fun. I know people are busy and can't post on their blogs everyday and that's fine. A couple times a month is ok with me.

Where to go from here?

I am finding that I am spending most of my spare time reading or posting on my Facebook Page & in my FB group about my reading and neglecting my blog. Since I don't have that much interaction on this blog, I am changing it to a book blog instead of just a "bit of everything" blog. I may still post random tidbits now and then, but I feel that this is the right direction for my blog. Here's to my New Year, new blog.
