The Two Lila Bennetts by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke

Rating (1-5) 📘📘📘📘📘
Genre - Fiction, Women's Divorce, Woman's Friendship
Format - E-book
Length - 4440 KB

Lila Bennett’s bad choices have finally caught up with her. And one of those decisions has split her life in two. Literally.
In one life, she’s taken hostage by someone who appears to be a stranger but knows too much. As she’s trapped in a concrete cell, her kidnapper forces her to face what she’s done or be killed. In an alternate life, she eludes her captor but is hunted by someone who is dismantling her happiness, exposing one secret at a time.
Lila’s decorated career as a criminal defense attorney, her marriage, and her life are on the line. She must make a list of those she’s wronged—both in and out of the courtroom—to determine who is out to get her before it’s too late. But even if she can pinpoint her assailant, will she survive? And if she does, which parts of her life are worth saving, and which parts must die? Because one thing’s for certain—life as Lila Bennett knew it is over.

*My Review*

Have you ever wondered if there was a parallel universe in which you were living your life, but differently? This is exactly what happens with Lila. Lila has made choices in her life that benefit her and only her. Now her secrets are out.

In one life Lila is kidnapped by the most unsuspected person who knows all her secrets. Her kidnapper is making sure that she is being held responsible for all her wrongs.

In her parallel life, she is trying to right her wrongs on her own. But will she admit to what she's done without having someone one forcing her too?

I enjoyed how the book went back and forth between her two lives and even gave her a sense of deja vu. I couldn't wait to finish and find out how each of the lives would end.

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware

Rating (1-5) 📘📘📘
Genre - Suspense, Psychological Thriller
Format - Audio  Book
Length -14 Hours 14 Min

*Amazon Blurb*

On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money.
Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it.
Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, this is an addictive thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

*My Review*

This book too way longer to get through that I'd have liked. I bought the CD's at my local library and the only place I could listen to it was when I was driving in my truck alone. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen very often.

The book started off very slow and it didn't really seem to pick up for me at all. There was definitely a mystery behind who Hal really was and how she was related to the family, but there was a lot of "commotion" with Hal running off, coming back and running off again. I was annoyed that people didn't just come out and say what they were thinking or what they would have. The characters were boring in my opinion.

Finding out how Hal fits into the family was probably the best part of the whole story and one that I wouldn't have guessed.

What makes a blog worthy of a follow?

I created my blog to keep track of book reviews for myself and to have an easy way to share them with people. I do use Goodreads to keep track of books, but it's not easy to share links of certain reviews. I normally keep it strictly reviews and nothing else. That means when life happens and I'm unable to read as much as I'd like, I don't have reviews to post. When I don't post reviews, my blog doesn't get any posts at all.

I'm curious.....what makes a blog one that you want to follow? Would you rather see more posts that are not reviews, but still book related? Any posts even if they aren't book related?
What are your thoughts on my blog? I know that there's a ton of them out there that have much more content. I like to keep my simple and to the point especially with my reviews. Do you think the blog is too simple?

Let's get some honest feedback...I promise I can handle it. If you don't want to comment on the blog feel free to email me. I'm looking forward to what you all think.

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Rating (1-5) 📘📘📘📘📘
Genre - Psychological Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Murder Thriller
Format - Hardcover
Length - 336 Pages

*Amazon Blurb*

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations―a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....

*My Review*

Alicia is found guilty of murdering her husband. The question is...did she really do it? No one can be 100% certain because she refuses to speak. Remember the saying, actions speak louder than words? What if the person won't even give any action or reaction to go on? She wouldn't give the police a statement, wouldn't talk to her lawyer and is now doing her time in an insane asylum. I mean she has to be crazy if she won't speak, right?

I am not one to be vocal while reading a book, but when the bomb drops I actually said "No way, that's so messed up." and then proceeded to rethink what I had already read. My husband looked at me like I had 2 heads. He isn't a reader, but I made he listen while I described what had happened and what I'd just found out.
I mean that book bomb...... WHAT?!?! If you are looking for a book with a major twist, then you MUST read this one.

*My Review*

This book was straight crazy....just like the killer.
What makes a helpful and quiet elderly man go on a killing spree? You'll have to ask his son, Isaac, to find out because he refuses to say anything to anyone other than him. Issac wants nothing to do with his father though, now more than ever. Since the murders, his life has been even harder than it was. Some of these stores are true. Others, however, are not.
Deciding truth from fiction is up to you.
A collection of paranormal mysteries that will keep you up long into the night.

Canyon County, Oregon is a place unlike any other. For as long as people have lived amongst the creek beds, tree-covered hills and deep shadowy hollers they have encountered strange phenomenon.

The Book Of Witness is a treasure trove containing thirteen peculiar paranormal mystery stories. This book will introduce you to just a few Canyon County residents touched by its cold finger.

A God-fearing Christian with wild hallucinations.
An unrepentant conman who got into business with a frightening shape shifter.
The wounded Vietnam veteran who watched his friends mercifully released from their mortal pain.
A rural mail carrier who got a little too curious.

Though all of these people come from different eras and walks of life, they have one thing in common. Their lives have been touched by unexplainable encounters with the paranormal.

And they want to tell you about it.

What is out there? Nobody knows for sure.

According to legend, it is an evil as old as the mountains.

*My Review*

This is a quick and easy read. The short stories are very short, but have everything a story needs to make it feel "complete".
I loved how this book brings a bunch of short stories together through location. All the characters experience a different type of phenomenon, but all in Canyon County. Some had a small encounter with the unexplained, while others were much more involved. It reminded me of the Twilight Zone.

No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan's most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story . . . until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.

Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew's sordid past and into the secrets kept within its walls. What she discovers pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.

*My Review*

A young girl gets the offer of a lifetime just when she desperately needs it. She is currently jobless and staying on her best friends couch. All Jules needs to do is apartment sit for a few months. There are strict rules to follow, but for the price she's being paid it's definitely worth it....or is it? It doesn't take long for Jules to realize that something isn't quite right at the Bartholomew, but trying to find the answers seems impossible. When she befriends another apartment sitter Ingrid who goes missing, Jules knows that she needs to find out answers and fast.
Throughout the book I had to keep changing my why and who. If you're looking for a book that'll keep you in suspense, this is it. The ending came as quite a surprise and it was one that never crossed my mind.

When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton’s type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. Nineteen times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, this anagram-happy, washed-up child prodigy has ten thousand dollars in his pocket, a bloodthirsty feral hog on his trail, and an overweight, Judge Judy–loving best friend riding shotgun—but no Katherines. Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Love, friendship, and a dead Austro-Hungarian archduke add up to surprising and heart-changing conclusions in this ingeniously layered comic novel about reinventing oneself.

*My Review*

So this was kind of a weird book for me. I didn't think it was amazing or anything like that, yet I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Colin. The weird obsession with Katherines and then the Theorem was unlike any other obsession I've ever read about. I felt like I needed to know if he would find another Katherine, would he complete the Theorum, would he date a non-Katherine.....all sorts of questions I needed answers to.
It's definitely as easy read and the adventures that Colin and his best friend end up on is pretty fun.
